Hydro XYZ

So, once again, I am blogging about the sleepless wonder. Holden went back to his old sleeping habbits, after my last blog. I am starting to really worry, not just about my own sanity, but Holdens health. I finally decided to see the doctor, specifically for this problem. You see, in the past, I have mentioned it at checkups, but it seemed as if no one believed how little he is sleeping. This time I planned to convince someone.
I called the doctors office, and Holdens Doctor couldn't take him for a couple of weeks, but I needed to see someone immediately! I was on a mission. A mission to save my sanity. So, I made an appointment with another doctor in the office for Monday, August 20th.
Sunday, August 19th - I met someone like me! This woman has a one year old, who like Holden, never slept. Same 15 min. naps. Same gettining up every hour or less at night. Her doctor prescribed a medicine that is known as Hydro XYZ when her baby was Holdens age, and it worked. He now sleeps on his own. I decided that if the Doctor says he cannot do anything, I will bring this up.
Monday August 20th - The doctor asks about Holden's sleeping habbits. He asks exactly how long he sleeps, and when. When he sleeps better. When he sleeps worse. His attitude at day and night. How he is eating. He says it isn't that unusual to not nap much, but his night time behavior is what worries him. He then asks what we have tried, and what we do. I mentioned trying tylenol, and motrin in case he is teething. Teething tablets, gas drops, gas tablets, and Benedryl, which I did give him when he had a runny nose, but secretly did this to get him to sleep. Unfortunately, nothing worked. I then told him how Holden sits up in his sleep, and then can't lay back down. And how when I am rocking him he moves his body and kicks his legs a lot, like he can't relax.
Finally, after lots and lots of talking, he says this, "I believe that he has a sleep disorder, that is most likely caused by an overactive nervous system." Which totally explains the busy "sleepless body syndrome," and how he startles and wakes up so easy. The doctor than goes on to say, "Unfortunately, not much research has been done with infantile sleep disorders, so we don't know much now. I would like to research it, maybe call primary childrens, and see what kind of tests they do. Other than that, there is not much we can do.
I was very disappointed! Then, I remembered to mention Hydro XYZ. "I was going to prescribe that, but you said Benedryl didn't work, and it is basically just Benadryl, but stronger." Well, needless to say, I will try ANYTHING at this point. So, I will try it.
Well, it isn't a miracle cure, but it is helping. He still startles and wakes up after 15 min. naps, but, I can now get him back to sleep for a while, when this could have never been done before. He also sleeps 2-3 hours before waking up at night now. Which is progress. If I can get him to stop eating at night, this will hopefully change. Anyway, this is what I have done so far. I will try this medicine for a while, if it helps, FANTASTIC, if not, I will stop giving it to him, and suck it up. It can't last forever, right? *sigh* Oh well. I guess I can at least start thinking of more interesting blog topics if it works. Which is lucky for you suckers waisting your time reading this!

Bizarro World

So, I believe that I have entered the bizarro world. Right after my last blog, I got a little surprise. The morning after my horrific night of no sleep, I had to do a lot of business stuff with Tim. I had to run errands, and go to the bank for like two hours with a fusssy baby, and sign a whole bunch of papers.
I was really irriatable, to say the least. Anyway, after finishing a mountain of dishes that night (which was friday) Timmy handed me a piece of paper with a number on it. He said, "this is your confirmation , here is the credit card. Check in time is 3:00 Sat. Afternoon, check out Monday at 11:00."
HOW BIZARRE! (please excuse my dreadful spelling) Tim booked me a room for two nights to get some sleep! It had a King Size Bed and a Jacuzzi tub, and I got two massages! Not that Tim isn't a fantastic husband, but he never does anything like this. It was just bizarre. and wonderful.
So, after two wonderful nights of sleeping through the night, I was ready to return to my life of ever wakefulness. This is where things get really bizarre. Holden went to bed at 8:00, easily. Dani was in bed by 8:30. Holden slept until midnight, ate, slept until 5:00am, ate, and then slept until 9:30! He has never slept that much, ever! Dani didn't wake up once in the night, and did not come out of her room until 9:00 am. I have now had three nights of sleep. It is a different world, I'm telling you.
So, to top off the most bizarro world morning ever, I taped Sesame Street for Dani this morning, and went to push play, and Dani said "Wait! Mom, that was Le bar." (Meaning Levar from Reading Rainbow.) I asked her if she would rather watch Reading Rainbow than Sesame Street, and she replied, "Well, yeah!"
Apparently while I was gone, my 4 year old, became an 8 year old, and my baby sleeps through the night. Hence, my bizarro world.

Adventures of the Sleepless Mom

..I was not planning on ever writing a blog. Mainly because, who would ever want to read anything I have to say. My life is very mundane. My brother, for instance, has a very cool and exciting life. He is also really smart, and has interesting views. So, his blogs are fun to read. Then I decided I need to vent, and I hate writing in a journal. Also, this is a good way to let people in, that aren't around as much.
So, I often joke about needing more sleep, but I do not think people realize how much sleep I am missing out on. It is fun to joke about, but I am seriously coming dangerously close to severe exhaustion. Last night, for instance, is a good example of what my life is like. I finally got BOTH kids sleeping around 9:30, which was a job of work. I then thought, "good, time to spend some quality time with the husband." Alas, once again, Tim had a lot of paper work and such to do, so I got on the computer, and chatted with Kriss it. Krissy, as some of you know her. We had a good laugh, and I looked at some peoples pics, when around 10:45 or so, Holden woke up. So I went and paced around with him for a while, because God forbid I sit down with him! When he finally let me lay him down, I got back on the computer to finish what I was doing, and shut it down. I made it to bed around midnight. Tim was lucky enough to be in bed by 11:00. This is where my adventure begins.
12:15 Holden wakes up to eat, back in bed by 12:30
12:45 Holden wakes up to squirm. Paced with him, back in bed by 1:00
1:11 Holden wakes up yet again to Squirm. Will not let me sit down, let alone lay down with him. Back in bed by 2:27
3:30 Holden wakes up to eat. Tried to give him warm water, to wean him. NOT HAPPENING. Fed him, lay him down at 4:17
4:20 Dani yells and wakes up the baby as I am leaving his room. Calm him down, in her room by 4:25. She said I woke her up "cleaning or something" I guess, getting Holden's water. Back in bed by 4:30
4:50 Dani comes in my room. She saw a face out of the shadows of her dolls. Back in bed by 4:57
5:13 Dani comes in my room. She had a bad dream. Back in bed by 5:21, as Tim gets up for work.
5:43 Dani comes in my room. She had another bad dream. Back in bed by 5:5.... never mind, now Holden wakes up! Tim Leaves.
At this point, I am delerious, and angry. I hate kids. I wish I didn't have them. Sometimes I wish I could just leave. I am so pist off. My life sucks so bad! These are the thoughts going through my head, as I give in, and take Holden to bed with me, and nurse him to sleep.
Hey, I feel like I've been asleep for a while! And it feels good, when..."Ga Ga DA Ngee!" I open my eyes, at 7: 09, to his Giant Blue eyes, his bed head, and the cutest, happiest smile you've ever seen. So happy to have woken up on his sleeping mommy, and practicing his new noise "ga ga dada."
In this tiny moment, all of those horrible, awful, thoughts from an hour before washed away. This was a fantastic start to the day. Although I feel more hungover than I ever did when I was hungover, I am happy, and absolutely in love with this new little man in my life. He is so incredibly wonderful. Just like his fantastic big sister, who decided to get up at 7:30, even though she was supposed to wait for her new alarm clock to go off at 8:00.
